It may be possible you can face some weird problems. So before going further, you shall go through the above article. Now, in this article, I am going to describe the process of ” How to Customize WordPress Theme step by step.
How to Customize WordPress Theme?
To customize WordPress theme is not so difficult task, it is as much easier as you have never done before. Why I am saying this because WordPress provides you with lots of widgets and plugins. Which helps in creating an awesome website in an hour. However, there is no need to have any coding knowledge. There is one thing you should always have with you and that is your “Focus”.
Now coming to the point, follow these steps and you can be able to customize WordPress theme within a few minutes.
Customize WordPress theme
At your left side of the WordPress dashboard, there are lots of menus. Move your cursor to Appearance a popup menu will appear. Click on the Customize and you will be redirected to a new window.
In this window, you are seeing lots of menu item which I will describe in details, later. Now, coming to the first point,
Click on Site Identity and a new menu will appear as shown in the figure.
Select Logo– In this section, you can customize the logo of your website. What you have to do, click on the select logo and a new window appears. In this window click on the Add media section and upload your logo image which you are willing to apply on the website. If you are willing to create a logo for free you can create from free logo maker which is the best logo maker website.
Site title– Here you have to give a site title which will be shown in the header of the website.
Tagline– Give the best tagline to your website which will determine what your website is about and tick mark the box below tagline.
Site Icon- Site icon is the icon which is shown in the browser tabs and bookmark tabs. Select an image for your site icon from “select image and upload through the Add Media Section.
Now come back and customize a WordPress theme with the colour option,
Click on the colour tab and a new window appears with some colour features. Here you can edit the colours of your website as shown in the image. Header text allows you to change the colour of Site name and Tagline.
Colour Scheme– In this section, you can apply unique colours to your website. You can simply choose the Light or Dark colour for the background. There is an option for custom colour also.
Header Text Colour– Change the colour of your Site Title and Tagline.
In this section, you can change the header image of your website. Click on Add New Image and Add Media window will appear to upload an image. You can upload multiple images for the random view. You can also apply a video to the header section. Just copy the URL of the video and paste it into the URL section.
If you are willing to have social link menu in the header part, click on Add Item and add menus which you like to have in the header. You can make the category menu in the header instead of Home Menu.
- Click on Add items
- Choose the category section from the side popup menu
- And add category items to the menu
If you are willing to create Social Link Menu hence you can do the same process. After that, write the URL of your social media link.
Menu Location- when you scroll down, there are options for Menu location. Click on Top Menu box and it will show the menu in the header. If you are willing to have your menus in the footer further click on Social Link Menu box.
Menu Options- click on the menu option box and it will automatically add Menus to your website when you create a new one.
Widgets are the section from where you can add items to your sidebar and footer area. let’s check out, How it is done.
Blog Sidebar- You can apply any widgets to the sidebar of your website.
- Click on Blog Side Bar
- Click on Widgets
- Choose your items from the popup menu
For example, if you like to have a search box at the sidebar follow the same process as explained above. Give the title of the search box and click done. You will see a search box has appeared on the right side of the website.
Footer 1 and Footer 2– When you scroll down to the website, there is a text written ” Proudly Powered By WordPress” this section is called footer of a website. You can add any widgets which you like to apply.
This fragment helps in creating a homepage for your website. If you select “Your Latest Posts“, the post you have recently posted will show on your homepage. When you click on “A static page” it will show the pages you have created instead of the latest post. For example, Home Page, About Page, Contact page and Privacy page etc, all pages will be shown on the static page. However, you have created a new page for your website you can add it to the Add New Page tab.
As you see in the figure there are two options i.e. One Column and two columns. When you select One Column it shows your page title at the top of the post and latest post below it. But, when you click on the two columns it shows page title on the left side and post on the other side as shown in the image. You can select pages for your content from the drop-down menu or click on Add new page.
Additional CSS allows you to edit your website through the HTML coding. Write your coding in the box below and preview changes in the live preview section. It is not a compulsory section you can leave it and further, customize your website as I have shown above.
